Hello Friends

As of tonight, the final conditions on our purchase were lifted. In the first week of July, we will be the blessed and grateful stewards of God's building on Greenwood Avenue. We are so very thankful to God for all the doors that have been opened and for the clear leading of the Lord that has ...continue reading "We Are On the Move #2"

Transition Update # 1

Christ Church has a new home!

We are happy to report that Christ Church Anglican will be moving to the Greenwood Baptist Church property on Greenwood Avenue ? just around the corner and in our neighbourhood.

GreenwoodAvenueBuilding

While there are real estate and legal matters to attend to, we are in good hands with people like Colin Dennis (who is acting for us in real estate matters) and Jane Mesich (who is the treasurer of our Diocese). Both of these people, among others, deserve our gratitude.

There are several milestones ahead of us, including completion of our final inspections of the new building, as we move towards possession of our new church building in early July. As announced this past Sunday we are planning to celebrate our final service at Christ Church on Vimy Sunday September 7th and begin our worship together at Christ Church on Greenwood Avenue on September 14th.?? We expect to have Bishop Stephen with us on September 14th and Rev. Canon Murray will be the celebrant for the September 7 service and Bishop Andrews will celebrate the first service in our new home. ...continue reading "WE ARE ON THE MOVE"

This is the first time that I have had an internet connection so am writing a short note while we are waiting for our dinner sitting in the garden of the hotel at 8pm.
?This has been an incredible experience and so far we have done 4 distributions of 416 bedkits in different areas in the western region of Uganda. Today we left at 7am for a 3-4 hour drive before reaching our destination to deliver the bedkits
and then went for lunch about 3pm before driving another hour to our hotel . Unfortunately the bus blew a tire after lunch?so we sat at the side of the road while the bus driver and one of our team members who use to be a truck driver (82 Years old) changed the tire. So it was great to get here and have a hot shower.? The Ladies of the Inner Wheel that we work with and are with us for the whole trip are wonderful and have organized everything including all the children, the bedkits delivered at each location, lunches, and the hotels.
? We begin every morning with a prayer by one of the ladies and sing songs as we journey along in this very crowded bus but it is so much fun.
?Yesterday we had a free day but didn?t get to church as it was our day for a safari and a boat ride so we saw elephants,
water bucks, water buffalo, hippopotamus, wart hogs, crocodiles, and lots of different species of birds. It was a long day from 6am to 8pm in the very hot sun but a wonderful day.
? If you go on?SCAW.org?website you can see videos of our trip.
? Dinner has arrived- hopefully I can get a connection again

Made it to Dubai and it was 31C when I arrived at 1am- the heat just hit like an oven. By the time I got my luggage, found the shuttle bus to the Copthorne?hotel which happened to be?was for transit passengers only so had to transfer to the right hotel, it was 330am before I got into bed.? I was going to go on a 2 hour city tour this afternoon ?but think I may just go check out the pool and relax.
I think the rest of the group may be coming to the other hotel as they are arriving this evening so I may not see them until the airport early tomorrow morning.

Easter 2014

Jesus said ?I am the Resurrection and the Life?

Amid our sorrow, we say these words at every funeral.

At Easter we say them with triumph and a special sense of joy.

Yet even at Easter we may miss the deep significance of these words for our life from day to day. ...continue reading "Easter Letter 2014"

Hello

Just a reminder that we are having a Quiet Day at the church tomorrow from 10 to 3.
There will be three meditations on "The Tears of Jesus" and a short service of compline to end the day.
Lunch will be provided, but if you want to bring something to contribute to snacks that would be lovely.
Dress is very casual, and you might want to bring a journal and Bible. ?You will have time alone to pray, think or walk and anything you write in your journal will be strictly private and for your own use.
As always, the day is open to folks from other churches. ?There is no registration or fee, although there will be a free will basket for lunch costs.
I hope to see you there

Being Disciples - Making Disciples

Dear Friends,

Many of you are receiving the emails from the Synod Office ( and if you aren't and wish to, just go to the Diocesan site at?http://www.dioceseofalgoma.com?and sign up!).
For those who are not, however, I thought this release might be of interest:

Leaders from across Algoma focus on final phase of Strategic Plan

Posted: March 28, 2014

The Executive Committee of the Diocese of Algoma met March 19-20 at Villa Loyola in Sudbury. The greater part of the agenda was devoted to the Strategic Plan's call to rationalization - cultivating and directing our resources and capacities to develop and sustain healthy parishes in Algoma.

The Executive received summaries of congregational assessments that had been completed and submitted by the end of February. The Congregational Development Officer (CDO) briefed Executive on what these assessments reveal about the Diocese overall, highlighting both signs of vitality and evident challenges.

Meeting in deanery groups, Executive members discussed the work of rationalization. They also reviewed the summaries and provided feedback to assist the CDO in issuing reports that will be helpful to leadership in parishes and deaneries.

The complete assessment reports will be distributed to congregations and deanery officials by the end of April. These reports are designed to:

1.????????Help parishes prepare for future ministry,

2.???????Assist Deaneries to plan for common mission.

?
Yours in Christ's service
