Report from Fran Wilson

Tomorrow (June 22) we are delighted that Fran will be presenting a PowerPoint Presentation about her recent mission trip to Uganda with Sleeping Children Around the World. This will take place during both services (9 and 10:30).

In the meantime, below are two reports she sent en route:

?Internet connections continue to be a problem so we are back to the same hotel where I sent the last update.
We have now finished all 12 distributions and it was great teamwork by all .We have had long days, long bus rides but the smiles?, singing and dancing when we arrive at the different sites has been overwhelming.?Yesterday we went to the farthest southwest corner of Uganda almost to the border of Rwanda. We were in the mountainous area with absolutely spectacular scenery, on the roughest, dirt roads you can imagine with no guard rails and looking straight down from the sides of the bus. They have planted crops up and down the mountain sides and I think you have to be part mountain goat to survive on these slopes.
?We now go back to Kampala tomorrow so still have the visit to the orphanage to do and then will visit some markets and possibly a trip to see the source of the Nile.
? Our eating schedule is very different for me- breakfast usually between 6-7am , lunch about 3-4 pm and snacks or meals again between 8-930 pm. We are now waiting for simosas and chapatis at 930pm

We are back in Kampala and today we went to the orphanage to deliver? 4 large suitcases of clothes and baby things. There are 40 children at the orphanage between the ages of 0-6 years and it was just bedlam as they opened up one of the suitcases in the small lobby and the children were stripping down to bare little bodies as they scrambled to try on the new outfits. I picked up one little boy to help him dress?and? he screamed when I tried to put him down so spent the whole time we were there with him in my arms.
?After the orphanage we went to two markets for shopping and the group did their? share to help the Ugandian
economy! We went to a shopping mall after pizza for lunch for wonderful ice cream- first I?ve had since Malta.
?We have a free morning and then we have our assessment meeting and farewell dinner tomorrow and leave on Thurs. for Dubai.
We will be attending a funeral service Thurs. morning as the mother of ?one of the Ladies of the?Inner Wheel died just as we got back into town yesterday?. Then leave right from the funeral to the airport.
? Fran
